Snowmen for Africa
snowmen for a good cause
When the cameras panned over the finish area at the weekend of the Arlberg Kandahar race in St. Anton am Arlberg, the viewers in front of the TV must have noticed a few "figures" in the seats of the grandstand. In order not to let the athletes face an empty finish area, the organisers of the Arlberg Kandahar races came up with something very special.
Children and young people from the region built snowmen in the days before the races - each of them was unique and had several tasks. On the one hand, the snowmen served to spur the athletes on to top performances in the two speed races, the downhill on 9 January and the super-G on 10 January, and on the other hand they served a very concrete good cause. For 100 euros you could buy a snowman sponsorship. The entire donation went to a sustainable water project of Caritas in Africa. Two wells can now be built there.
The snowmen charity campaign was a joint project of the Arlberg Kandahar Races, the Austrian Ski Association, Caritas Tyrol and the municipality and tourism association of St. Anton am Arlberg.
